Description
The Snows of Kilimanjaro is a 1952 American Technicolor film based on the short story of the same name by Ernest Hemingway. The story centers on the memories of disillusioned American writer Harry Street (Gregory Peck) who's life flashes back before his eyes as he lies dying from a wound suffered at the foot of Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro. As he is tended to by his traveling companion, Helen (Susan Hayward), he recalls many things: his first wife and Paris literary inspiration, Cynthia Green (Ava Gardner); his second wife, Countess Liz (Hildegarde Neff); and his formative years with uncle Bill (Leo G. Carroll). Many critics and fans love this movie, the best of all Hemingway stories on film perhaps.

In this monster classic Lon Chaney Jr. embodies Larry Talbot, who returns to Wales when his brother dies and reconciles with his father (Claude Rains). While there, he visits an antique shop and, hoping to impress the attractive shopkeeper Gwen (Evelyn Ankers), buys a silver walking cane and succeeds. That same night he kills a wolf with it, only to later learn that he actually killed a man (Bela Lugosi). Tortured by his action, a gypsy (Maria Ouspenskaya) explains that it was her son, a werewolf, that he killed, and that Larry is now one himself.
